The Diversibananas Story
In the 1950s, Fusarium wilt devastated Gros Michel plantations, forcing the industry to replace this legendary variety with Cavendish.
Today, history repeats itself—Cavendish faces the same threat.
Our research in Guatemala revealed a remarkable truth: Gros Michel still thrives in the country’s highlands when grown in forest-like, diversified ecosystems alongside coffee, cacao, and other crops. These natural systems preserve soil biodiversity and allow bananas to grow with minimal use of chemicals or synthetic fertilizers.
Diversibananas was created to revive the Gros Michel and empower growers through a model of resilient, ecological agriculture—bringing back a banana of unmatched flavor, heritage, and wellness to the world.
