Our Community and the impact of Gros Michel
Our Community
Our partners, the local farmers, share our passion for sustainable agriculture. They grow coffee and other seasonal products in the mountains of Guatemala, where Gros Michel plantations can still be found and are successfully grown.
The current prices of coffee in the international market fluctuate continuously, creating instability for growers and threatening their livelihoods. This economic volatility depresses local communities, making it harder for coffee growers to pay their employees, ensure year-round work, and continue producing and expanding their crops.
Offering these farmers an alternative to supplement their income and provide sustainable employment in their communities is welcome news. It guarantees their commitment to providing a quality product with all the benefits of a sustainable ecosystem. Diversifying their crops with Gros Michel bananas, we help stabilize their income, enhance food security, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
joining efforts
Our initiative to promote the cultivation of Gros Michel bananas alongside other crops goes beyond providing stable jobs and better salaries—it’s about empowering our communities to thrive. By creating economic stability, we aim to reduce the need for migration to urban areas or other countries.
Additionally, we plan to produce byproducts from banana fiber crafted by senior citizens and individuals with disabilities, demonstrating our commitment to supporting these often-overlooked groups within our rural communities. This holistic approach ensures that everyone benefits from sustainable agricultural practices, fostering a sense of inclusion and resilience in our community.
